New Independence Parkway

Preliminary Design Study

Description

Orange County has initiated a Preliminary Design study (PDS) in west Orange County to extend New Independence Parkway from Avalon Road (CR 545) to the Lake County line in order to align with Lake County’s planned road from US 27 called Wellness Way. The extending of New Independence Parkway is being planned as a four-lane divided roadway with pedestrian and bicycle facilities, stormwater treatment, roadway lighting and landscaping within the study corridor. The study limits of this project are from approximately 600 feet west of Avalon Road to the Orange/Lake County line, a distance of approximately 1 mile.

Purpose

The purpose of extending New Independence Parkway is to support increased traffic demands due to the future developments within Orange County’s Horizon West and Lake County’s Wellness Way Sector Plan.

Status

This study is underway and it is anticipated to be completed Fall of 2022 complete.

Public Involvement

A Public Involvement Plan (PIP) was developed to inform and involve the citizens of Orange and Lake Counties, appropriate state and local agencies, and responsible appointed and elected public officials in the project planning, review and approval process. At the point where alternative roadway concepts are developed, Orange County will conduct a community meeting to receive feedback from area citizens. This meeting will be followed up by a public hearing with Orange County’s Local Planning Agency and the Board of County Commissioners.
