Building Community Resilience

An action plan will be developed to convert Orange County’s eight Community Centers
into resilience hubs by assessing programming, structure, power, communications, and
operations, with a focus on energy efficiency and reliability such as solar and
battery storage. The plan will provide tailored improvements to strengthen community
resilience, support vulnerable residents, and align with other CDBG-DR projects.

|
Funding will be used to develop a targeted urban tree planting and resilience
strategy for low- and moderate-income neighborhoods, identifying priority areas,
engaging communities, and creating a five-year plan to improve environmental equity
and reduce disaster vulnerability.

Lake Lotta and Northwest Ditch Basin Studies
|
Studies of the Lake Lotta and Northwest Ditch basins using ICPR modeling will guide
comprehensive planning to prioritize flood risk mitigation. This work will support
the City’s Watershed Master Plan, improve drainage projects, prevent future drainage
problems, and enhance the City’s CRS rating to help residents receive better NFIP
flood insurance discounts.

Nature Based Solutions for Flood Mitigation
|
Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) use green infrastructure such as wetlands, retention
ponds, and urban forests to sustainably manage stormwater, reduce flooding, and
improve water quality in Orlando. A consultant will be hired to identify
cost-effective NBS projects that also enhance recreation, health, and community
livability while avoiding the carbon footprint of traditional infrastructure.
