Overview
Orange County is dedicated to providing residents with
educational information regarding both flu shots and vaccinations. The Florida
Department of Health Orange County provides vaccinations. Residents can book an
appointment through
FDOH’s
vaccination portal
but should consult their doctor or primary care
specialist before scheduling an appointment.
Measles
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says measles is highly contagious. If one person has it, 9 out of 10 people nearby will become infected if they are not properly vaccinated. The measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine is a two-shot vaccination that is 97% effective in preventing the disease if the person has received both doses. If a person has received one dose of the vaccine, it is 93% effective.
The CDC also provides guidance on what parents should do if they are getting their child vaccinated.
Flu
Flu season happens every year and the CDC recommends people
as young as 6 months old should receive a flu shot. It is particularly
important for individuals who are at higher risk of serious complications from
influenza. Individuals interested in getting a flu shot can read more about it
and find out where they can get the shot in their area by visiting the Florida
Department of Health’s
influenzadashboard.
