PARKS & REC INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Interning with Orange County Parks and Recreation will allow students to develop a solid foundation in local government administration, to include all aspects of programming, facility management, administrative functions and operational oversight. Expect exposure to historic, environmental, athletic, senior and youth programming, natural resource management and a host of opportunities throughout Orange County’s 99 parks and facilities.

INTERNSHIP INFORMATION

Under the direction of a Certified Park Professional, interns will be trained to coordinate and schedule staff, attend and facilitate meetings, prepare reports, assist with budget preparations and review capital development. Interns will be introduced to Kronos, RecWare, Orange County GIS/Infomap and other technology-driven software used at the workplace and will assist his or her supervisor in pushing new policy, procedure, evaluation instruments and technology to the Division. Interns will assist the process to obtain Agency Accreditation.

Interns will have the opportunity to work in the field, assist with special events and complete an internship project selected in the best interest of the student and Orange County. Interns with the Orange County Parks and Recreation Division will receive a customized schedule to meet the needs of the student and University developed through structured meetings and knowledge of the intern’s professional goals.

WHO CAN APPLY?

You must be currently enrolled in a four-year college or university program in Parks and Recreation Administration, Natural Resource Management, Recreation Programming, Event Management, Parks and Recreation Marketing/Graphic Design, Exercise and Sport Science or a similar field. Graduate degree-seeking students may also be considered.

We also accept applications year-round for opportunities that arise on an as-needed basis. Your application will remain on file for one year. Should an opportunity occur for which you qualify, we will contact you for availability and a possible interview.

WHEN SELECTED

If you’re selected for an internship opportunity, you will need to:

  • Complete a pre-employment physical, drug test and background check
  • Register for selective service if you are required to do so
  • Sign up for direct deposit by the first day on the job
