Additionally, Forbes magazine ranked the metro Orlando region No. 1 to invest in a home with an estimated 84,000 building permits issued in Orange County valued at $2.3 billion. Orange County also earned the highest AAA credit rating from Moody's Investors Service, recognizing its fiscal reliability and continued quality-of-life enhancements.
Orange County is conducting the Sunbridge Parkway Preliminary Design Study (PDS). The primary study corridor is south of Aerospace Parkway and east of Roberts Island Slough, extending to the Orange/Osceola County line (approximately 6.3 miles).
In 2004, Orange County approved the Innovation Way Overlay, a vision for East Orange County as a mixed-use, high-tech corridor connecting the University of Central Florida, Lake Nona’s Medical City and the Orlando International Airport. In 2016, Orange County approved amendments to the comprehensive plan related to a project known as Sunbridge, including amendments to the Long Range Transportation Plan to incorporate certain framework roadways serving the area. Included among these framework roadways was a roadway extending from the Beachline Expressway to the Orange/Osceola County line, which is now known as Sunbridge Parkway. The Central Florida Expressway Authority began construction in 2016 of an interchange between the Beachline Expressway and Innovation Way to the north and Sunbridge Parkway to the south, extending to a realignment of Aerospace Parkway This new interchange is anticipated to be fully completed in mid-2018. The extension of Sunbridge Parkway into Osceola County, combined with extensions of Dowden Road and Innovation Way South from Sunbridge Parkway to the Central Florida Greeneway and Narcoossee Road, will vastly improve regional connectivity in southeast Orange County.
The study limits begin roughly one mile south of the intersection of Sunbridge Parkway and Aerospace Parkway and extend to the Orange/Osceola County line. The portion of Sunbridge Parkway lying between Aerospace Parkway and the beginning of the study area is currently under design, with construction anticipated to commence in early 2018. Sunbridge Parkway is envisioned as a four (4) lane divided roadway that is to be constructed over time in phases. The roadway segments included in this study comprise a major component of the critical roadway network required to support Orange County’s vision for East Orange County. The project is located in Orange County Commission District 4.
The PDS will assess current and future travel demand in the area and identify a recommended roadway alignment that is intended to provide greater regional connectivity and travel options while people and vehicles move safely and conveniently along the corridor. The study will include design traffic projections and identify conceptual improvement recommendations within the proposed right-of-way.
Public input will play a key role in the Study process. As such, the County will be hosting a community meeting to present preliminary concepts related to the roadway extension. The meeting will be publicly posted at least two weeks prior to the meeting date.
