Residential Curbside Collection Program

Our curbside collection program provides residents with roll carts to dispose of garbage and recyclables. Under this program, garbage, recycling, yard waste, and large items are each picked up once per week. View our curbside collection program flyer to learn more.

Orange County’s curbside collection days will change effective Monday, December 29, 2025.

Recycling, garbage, yard waste, and large items will still be collected every week — with new assigned days and more efficient routes.

Missed Collection and Service Issues

Please send an email to Solid.Waste@ocfl.net (include your name, street address, contact information, and details of the issue or request) or call the Solid Waste Hotline at 407-836-6601.

In most cases, if you report missed items before 11 a.m., they will be collected the same day. Reports made after 11 a.m. will result in collection occurring on the next business day. Please note that reports made after 11 a.m. on Friday will be processed for service on Monday, as it is the next business day.

What Goes Where

Use our What Goes Where tool to see the best, safest disposal method for your waste items.

Place carts within three feet of the curb no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before and no later than 6 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. Remember: Collection crews have until 8 p.m. to complete each route.

Garbage truck
  • Keep lids fully closed; do not overfill carts. Do not stack items on top of or alongside carts.
  • Have at least three feet of clearance between each cart, the mailbox, parked cars, and low-hanging tree limbs so trucks can safely use the mechanical arm.
  • Face cart handles toward the house and lid arrows toward the street.
  • DO NOT MIX yard waste, garbage, recyclables, and large items.
  • After collection, put empty carts away on the same day.
  • Use our online form to request a cart repair or replacement.
  • To help prevent truck fires, DO NOT place items such as batteries, oil, pool chemicals, and propane tanks in the carts.

To reduce the amount of garbage in the recycling stream, residents are encouraged to "Think 5" and only put these empty and dry recyclable items in the blue lid recycling cart (loose, NOT bagged):

Recycling bin
  • Plastic
    Bottles, jugs, and tubs only
  • Metal cans
    Tin, aluminum, and steel
  • Glass
    Bottles and jars
  • Cardboard
    Flatted corrugated boxes
  • Paper
Including newspapers and advertisements; paper bags; junk mail, magazines, and catalogs; office/note paper; phone books; cereal/shoe/drink boxes; and milk/juice cartons

The recycling program can only accept the items listed above. Please keep all other items, including plastic garbage and shopping bags, out of the blue lid recycling cart. Dispose of plastic shopping bags in the green lid garbage cart or drop off at local stores with collection bins.

Click the Save Landfill Space button for information on recycling drop-off locations.

Household garbage items, except for those items listed below, may be placed in the cart with the green lid. It is recommended that garbage items be bagged and tied first, then placed in the cart. This practice will keep your container cleaner, minimize odors, and reduce the chance of wind-blown litter.

Other ways to help control odor include double bagging when the odor is more offensive, making sure the cart lid is closed tight, and leaving a dryer sheet inside the cart.

Unaccepted waste includes hot ashes or coals, recyclable items, household hazardous chemicals, medical waste, fluorescent bulbs, tires, paint, and yard waste such as bagged or loose grass, leaves, or small branches.

Yard waste includes vegetative landscaping material as well as grass, tree, and shrub trimmings, and should not be placed in the garbage or recycling cart. Place neatly at the curb no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before and no later than 6 a.m. on your scheduled collection day.

Bundle of sticks
  • Limit yard waste to three cubic yards (about the size of three stoves) per household per week.
  • Use your own personal cans or bags for collection. Keep each can and bag under 60 pounds when full. Cans and bags must be 50 gallons or less and weigh less than 60 pounds each when full. Cans must be waterproof with a tight-fitting lid and have handles on the sides.
  • Don't mix yard waste with garbage, recyclables, or large items.
  • Cut limbs, palm fronds, and similar items to three feet or less and bundle with string or twine. Each bundle must weigh less than 60 pounds.
  • Cut stumps into pieces no longer than three feet, and make sure each piece is less than 60 pounds.
  • Live Christmas trees can be set out on your yard waste collection day. Trees over six feet should be cut in half. Remove the stand and all decorations before placing your tree at the curb. Remember, disposal by burning causes air pollution and is prohibited in Orange County. Find more information at ocfl.net/OpenBurningRules. Artificial trees that do not fit in the garbage cart can be set out for large item collection.
  • Keep all materials away from meters and utility boxes to avoid locking service and maintenance access.

Large items such as furniture, mattresses, appliances, TVs, and up to four passenger car tires are collected the same day as yard waste. Place neatly at the curb no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before and no later than 6 a.m. on your scheduled collection day.

Chair
  • Limit large items to three cubic yards (about the size of three stoves) per household per week.
  • Please keep large items separate from yard waste.
  • Freon-containing devices such as freezers and refrigerators are not included in the curbside collection program.
  • If you have questions about the eligibility of your large item for curbside collection, please call the Solid Waste Hotline at 407-836-6601.
  • Keep all materials away from meters and utility boxes to avoid blocking service and maintenance access.
