Orange County Welcomes Digital Orlando Conference to Full Sail University

Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs recently welcomed technology entrepreneurs and innovators to the Digital Orlando conference at Full Sail University to discuss the future of Central Florida’s burgeoning high-tech industry.

“From creating a business climate that nurtures our startups and rewards collaboration and synergy, to investing in infrastructure that will support the technical requirements for digital creativity, we want Orange County to be the place for digital innovation,” Mayor Jacobs said.

Orlando has gained global recognition as a creative hub for digital media, simulation and entertainment technologies. As a champion of this vital economic sector, the County created the Technology and Social Media Workgroup, which operates as a think-tank to advance new technologies, social media and mobile applications supported and developed by Orange County Government. The workgroup also collaborates on how to best enhance online public engagement and support the growing technology and digital community in our region.

A member of Orange County’s Social Media and Technology Workgroup, David Glass, organized Digital Orlando to educate the region on what Central Florida needs to be fully integrated in the technology sector.

“We are developing a roadmap for growing our technology ecosystem,” said Glass, founder of OrlandoiX and publisher of the Florida Technology Journal.

The region is recognized globally as the No. 1 place of military modeling, simulation and training (MS&T). The Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force are the core of the region’s simulation and training industry, contributing nearly $5 billion to Florida’s gross state product and nearly 30,000 high-tech jobs.

In June 2013, Mayor Jacobs founded the MS&T Blue Ribbon Commission, which brings together a coalition of community leaders and industry stakeholders who generate awareness to this key high-value, high-wage economic driver in Central Florida. Members of the MS&T Blue Ribbon Commission represent the broader seven-county region, including Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake, Polk, Brevard and Volusia counties.

Orange County is also recognized globally for its consumer-facing entertainment industry, thriving at theme parks and in game-production businesses.
