Orange County Transportation Initiative

TODAY: Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings and the Board of County Commissioners want to hear from you regarding the proposed sales tax increase for transportation. Having a robust transportation system remains a crucial element for our quality of life, connecting us to vital aspects such as housing, education, business centers, community amenities and the environment. While we implemented the Accelerated Transportation Safety Program in 2023 to enhance safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, motorist and transit, it falls short in funding all critical countywide transportation needs.

Through a series of community meetings, we are re-engaging with residents to better understand their community’s multimodal transportation needs and how they have changed throughout the years.

In 2019 & 2022: We hosted more than 200 community meetings and received more than 19,000 survey responses, which gave county officials valuable feedback on how transportation issues impact the livelihood of our residents. Community feedback revealed that residents feel traffic congestion is the No. 1 transportation challenge they face today, and they believe building a mass transit system to include buses, trains and other modes of transportation is a top priority for this initiative. Pedestrian and bicycle safety were also top concerns.
