Hundreds Attend Fourth Annual Jazz in the Park

Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs recently hosted an evening of Jazz in the Park and welcomed hundreds of citizens to the event held annually at Cypress Grove Park nestled on beautiful Lake Jessamine.

More than 700 guests sat on the lawn and mingled under the pavilion next to the stage while taking in the cool sounds of Jazzyway Express, Eastside Combo and the Dave Capp Project.

“Every day, our citizens live by the philosophy of neighbors helping neighbors, including many who donate their time, talent and resources to local service organizations,” said Mayor Teresa Jacobs. “It was a privilege for me to host another great Jazz in the Park celebration, and to recognize so many selfless citizens and outstanding community service organizations who are working to improve the lives of others.”

During her remarks, Mayor Jacobs acknowledged several service organizations for their dedication in making Orange County the best place in the world to live, learn, work and raise a family. Mayor Jacobs also recognized volunteers for exemplifying Orange County’s philosophy of “neighbors helping neighbors.”

“March is recognized nationally as American Red Cross Month, and having Mayor Jacobs recognize our local chapter this past weekend is important so that Orange County residents keep the Red Cross top of mind even when the weather is non-threatening,” said Katherine ‘Boo’ Gonzalez, executive director, American Red Cross Greater Orlando Chapter.

Guests held picnics on the lawn while others purchased an array of culinary delights from local food trucks including the Crepe Co., Belly Full, Carabama and the Curbside Chef.

This year, Orange County Parks and Recreation also added a new Kids Zone at the event with table-top games and face painting for families with young children.

“Orange County Parks and Recreation was happy to hold Jazz in the Park for the fourth consecutive year,” Parks and Recreation Manager Matt Suedmeyer said. “It was such a thrill to see so many citizens come out to Cypress Grove Park to enjoy this event.”

Cypress Grove Park sits on 80 acres of lush grounds boasting oak and cypress trees, radiant seasonal flowers, and perfectly manicured lawns. The park is home to the Estate House at Cypress Grove, a charming vintage 1925 colonial estate that has become a destination for weddings, soirees, corporate events, and holiday celebrations.

Maintaining more than 15,000 acres, the Orange County Parks and Recreation Division operates 100 parks, trails, boat ramps and facilities, including 13 recreation centers.
