Art Meets Agriculture – Call for Art

Orange County’s Fourth Annual High School
Pollution Prevention Awareness Calendar Art Contest

Orange County, FL – Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs and Orange County Commissioners have proclaimed September 15 – 21, 2014 Pollution Prevention Week in Orange County, serving to officially launch the County’s annual Pollution Prevention Awareness Calendar Art Contest. This contest is open to all Orange County high school students, grades 9 – 12.

Contest Theme: Art Meets Agriculture. Students are asked to artistically communicate practices which help prevent pollution, conserve natural resources and promote the health of our community. Artwork should reflect sustainable farm to table practices, such as buying local, urban, community and backyard gardens, organic farming, beekeeping and pasture raised farm animals. All 2-D and 3-D art mediums will be accepted. Rules and entry form are available at our Environment page or by emailing orangetogreen@ocfl.net.

Win: Winning entries will be featured in the 2016 Pollution Prevention Awareness Calendar to be distributed during Pollution Prevention Week 2015 (third full week in September). Schools/classrooms will receive an Art Systems of Florida gift card, valued at $ 100, per winning entry. Grand prize includes a membership and art class from Crealdé School of Art and an Art Systems of Florida gift card. First through third place prizes are provided by Wella Verde, Wekiva Island, and Central Florida Sierra Club.

Judging criteria: Art is judged on effectiveness and relevance to theme, originality/creativity, and quality of art.

Deadline: Entries will be collected at the Orange County Environmental Protection Division, 800 Mercy Drive, Suite 4, Orlando, FL 32808. Deadline for entries is Friday, October 24, 2014 at 5 p.m.

Art Exhibit: A reception and art exhibit will be held at the Orlando Public Library, 101 East Central Boulevard, downtown Orlando, Thursday, November 20, 4 – 7 p.m., featuring all contest entries.
