Don't Pitch It, Fix It

Don’t Pitch It – Fix It! is a community repair workshop in partnership with the City of Winter Park and the City of Orlando. The workshop gives residents the opportunity to have broken items repaired by handy neighbors and skilled volunteers. In addition to the workshop, Orange County will provide information about local businesses that can repair a wide variety of items. Don’t Pitch It, Fix It! is part of Orange County’s Pollution Prevention (P2) program. The P2 program is focused on reducing or eliminating sources of pollution, such as landfill waste. Residents can help Orange County significantly reduce landfill waste by 2040—a goal stated in the Our Home for Life Sustainability Plan—by researching new purchases and repairing, reusing and recycling broken items.

Repair volunteers will try to fix: eyeglasses, watches, clocks, cell phones, jewelry, clothing, lamps, tools, electronics, bicycles and small appliances.

Local businesses will have the opportunity to meet potential clients, make connections with future customers and help the community. Businesses can participate in two ways:

  1. Request a window cling for your storefront during the week of September 15 to 22. When a customer mentions the Don’t Pitch It, Fix It! window cling, give them a discount off the repair cost. Keep track of how many customers receive discounts and the savings you provided.
  2. Join the workshop on Saturday, September 15 as a repair volunteer . Be ready to fix small items for free that residents bring to the event!

As a resident, there are various ways to ensure the success of the Don’t Pitch It, Fix It event:

  1. Bring items in need of repair to one of the local participating businesses or to the Don’t Pitch It, Fix It! event at Barnett Park.
  2. Share your “fix it” skills and sign up to be a repair volunteer. You will meet new people, make connections and reduce waste.
